Your Daily Life Tips (Week Twelve)

Life Tips Week 12 - Time is Most Important

Daily Life Tip #79

Prioritize Exercise in Your Day

If exercise could be packaged in a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and beneficial medicine in the nation.” – Robert Butler, National Institute on Aging.

Exercise is the ultimate game-changer for your physical well-being. Yet, despite its incredible benefits, it can be easy to find excuses to skip it. Yet, by neglecting exercise, you’re prioritizing other aspects of your life over your health.

Instead, live by the rule that exercise comes first.

Benefits:

  • Get ready for a power boost! Regular exercise strengthens your heart muscle, making it more efficient at pumping blood around the body. This improves your circulation, reducing your risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Resistance training, such as weightlifting, helps to build muscle strength and endurance, which is crucial for maintaining mobility and reducing the risk of injury as you age.
  • Say goodbye to stress and hello to a brighter mood! Exercise is your ticket to enhancing your overall well-being. It triggers the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that promote feelings of happiness. As such, regular physical activity has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall cognitive function

Life Hack:

  • Make it a priority to dedicate some time in the morning for exercise, or swing by the gym on your route home from work. These moments offer ideal opportunities to prioritize fitness before the hustle and bustle of daily life takes over.

Daily Life Tip #80

Avoid the Snack Jar

Ever wondered how those little bites add up? According to a study in PLOS Global Public Health, the average American snacks their way through a whopping 400-500 calories a day!

That’s more than what most folks have for breakfast! And guess what? Many of those snacks are as empty as they come, offering zilch in the nutrition department.

So, here’s the real question: Are you snacking without even realizing it? Could those extra calories be sneaking up on you? And hey, are those snack attacks replacing nutritious meals?

Here’s a thought: Swap out the snack jar for some hearty, wholesome meals. Say goodbye to constant grazing and hello to satisfying, nutritious eats!

Benefits:

  • Keep your energy levels steady! By replacing snacks with nutritious and filling meals, you can prevent those midday crashes and stay energized all day long.
  • Stay on track with your health goals! Avoiding snacking not only helps manage your weight by cutting down on extra calories but also encourages you to savor and enjoy your main meals mindfully.

Life Hack:

  • Here’s a trick: skip the snack aisle at the supermarket. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Oh, and here’s another pro tip: slap a sticky note on your cupboards and fridge as a little reminder to make you think twice before reaching for those munchies.

Daily Life Tip #81

Reframe Losses

Ever heard of the “loss-aversion” theory?

To explain, consider the following example: You’re faced with two options, both equally appealing, but one is framed as a potential gain while the other is a potential loss. Guess what?

Your brain is actually wired to lean towards the former.

In other words, you’d feel way more disappointed about losing £15 after gaining £30 than if you only gained £15 from the get-go.

Understanding this psychological principle allows you to flip your perspective on losses and see them as positives instead.

Benefits:

  • Crack the code of the “loss-aversion” theory and gain the upper hand in decision-making by decoding your brain’s reactions to wins and losses.
  • Flip the script on losses, and build resilience as you gain a more positive outlook.

Life Hack:

  • Shift your focus from what’s lost to what’s gained in any scenario. Remember, in any situation lies a nugget of wisdom at the very least.

Daily Life Tip #82

Your Time is Most Important

GoodLiife Tips by Jane Courtnell – GoodLiife’s Marketing Director

We’ve all heard the motto: ‘Time is precious.’ It can feel a bit cliche. Yet, amid life’s whirlwind, I often find myself not living by this rule.

For me, this motto means to strike a balance – carving out space for work, but also for moments that truly matter: laughter with loved ones, spontaneous adventures, and the simple joy of being present.

As I near the milestone of 30, the rapid pace of my 20s has put this motto into clear focus.

So, I’ve made a pact with myself: say yes to the things that matter to me. This means spending weekends with my family, lunches with friends, impromptu trips and adventures, avoiding drama, gossip, and grudges, and embracing the art of slowing down my days to pause and savor life’s precious moments.

What does this motto mean for you?

Benefits:

  • Keeping the motto “time is precious” in the forefront of my mind feels meditative. When I find my mind racing through to-do lists, I think “STOP”, breathe, and focus on the present moment. I’ve started to feel less stressed, anxious, and happier overall.

Life Tip:

  • I have a diary that I write in every morning. Here I write down “time is precious” as a daily affirmation and reminder to myself of what matters.

Daily Life Tip #83

Practice Effective Asynchronous Communication at Work

Asynchronous communication is a method where information exchange occurs with a time delay between sending and receiving a message.

This form of communication is a lifeline for remote teams navigating various time zones.

Yet there’s an art to this form of communication. To communicate effectively, you must:

  • Recognize that over-communication is vital.
  • Provide ample information within each message.
  • Set clear deadlines.
  • Articulate needs explicitly.

Benefits:

  • Unlock the power of effective asynchronous communication to prevent misunderstandings and keep information flowing smoothly.
  • This not only streamlines tasks but also reduces the chances of errors. Ensure your projects stay on track and your team thrives.

Life Hack:

  • When communicating asynchronously, don’t rush through writing your message. Take your time to read through and edit to ensure it’s clear, correct, and concise.

Daily Life Tip #84

Be a Radiator

Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you turn into a literal radiator! This life tip is a metaphor for encouraging you to radiate positivity and warmth.

Become the kind of person others gravitate towards, drawn in by your kindness, support, and vibrant energy.

Make it your daily mission to embody these qualities and observe how they transform your relationships for the better.

Benefits:

  • By radiating kindness and warmth, you’ll build better bonds and create a harmonious atmosphere.
  • This will spark a chain reaction of positivity that uplifts everyone nearby.
  • Plus you’ll also boost your mental and emotional well-being, making every day a little brighter for yourself and those around you.

Life Hack:

  • Choose your words wisely when speaking to others. Let your language be a source of upliftment and encouragement, steering clear of negativity like gossip, criticism, and indifference.

Daily Life Tip #85

Express Appreciation to Your Partner with Written Notes

GoodLiife Tips by Jen Basco – GoodLiife’s Creative Director

Writing notes to my partner is a timeless gesture of love and appreciation.

When I write messages to those I cherish, an intricate connection between my hand and my brain forms, strengthening certain neural pathways. This process imbues my words with significance, fostering both meaning and lasting memories.

Benefits:

  • Personal Touch: Writing handwritten notes carries a personal touch that digital messages often lack. The effort and thought put into crafting a handwritten note can make my partner feel truly cherished and valued. It shows that I took the time to express my feelings tangibly, deepening the emotional connection between us.
  • Long-lasting Reminders: My partner can keep these notes and revisit them whenever they need a boost of encouragement or a reminder of our love. This creates a lasting impact and contributes to building a strong foundation of trust and appreciation in our relationship.

Life Hack:

  • I created a designated “love note jar” where my partner and I can leave notes for each other. This could be a decorative jar placed in a prominent location in our home. Whenever I’m feeling grateful or want to express my love, I jot it down on a small piece of paper and leave it in the jar for my partner to find.
