Daily Life Tip #78

Utilize the 80-20 Rule to Maximize Your Finances

GoodLiife Tips by Jen Basco – GoodLiife’s Creative Director

Ever heard of the 80-20 rule? It’s also called the Pareto Principle. It says that 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort.

Now, how does this apply to personal finance? Well, it’s like having a magic formula to figure out where to focus my money mojo for the best results.

Instead of spreading myself thin, I can zoom in on the areas that matter most. For instance, I think about what 20% of my income delivers the most benefit.

By identifying the most significant areas of spending, income, saving, investing, or debt reduction, I can streamline my financial strategy.

Whether it’s trimming unnecessary expenses, optimizing my income sources, or concentrating on high-return investments, leveraging the Pareto Principle can guide me toward achieving better financial outcomes with less effort and resources.

Benefits:

  • Focused Effort: I figure out the small things I do with my money that make the biggest difference in my life. Then, I concentrate on those and get the most bang for my buck.
  • Saving Smarter: By focusing on the few key areas where I can save or invest effectively, I’ll make my money work harder for me without spreading myself too thin.

Life Hack:

  • I look at where I spend my money the most. I find the things that aren’t worth it, like subscriptions I hardly use or unnecessary purchases. I cut back on those and put the saved money toward things that matter, like saving up for emergencies or investing for my future.
