Set Aside 10 Minutes to Establish the Right Morning Routine
NOTE: Make sure you have enough time (10 minutes) to implement this LiifeHabit.
- Create a Consistent Wake-Up Time: Establish a consistent wake-up time that allows for an unhurried start to your day. Plus, this consistency regulates your body’s internal clock. This will help you get to sleep quicker each night, and will improve sleep quality.
- Don’t hit snooze: Try putting your alarm clock beyond reach, forcing you to get out of bed to turn it off. This will stop you from hitting the snooze button. Snoozing is actually a bad habit. It can lead to a state called sleep inertia – a period of grogginess and reduced performance caused by fragmented sleep.
- Clear Your Mind: Acknowledge three things you’re grateful for. It might be watching the sunlight shine through your blinds. Or having had a good night’s sleep. Or acknowledging your fortune for having a warm bed to wake up in. Gratitude forces you to focus on the positives and appreciate being alive. You will feel happier each day.
- Stay off your phone: Minimize exposure to external distractions in the morning, such as emails or social media. Focus on internal reflection and goal-oriented tasks during these 10 minutes. This will improve your mental well-being by dedicating time each day for you, and only you.
- Hydrate: Use this time to drink a pint of water. This will ensure you are hydrated to then take on your day. After a long night’s sleep, we wake up naturally dehydrated. Even a slight decrease in hydration can cause feelings of fatigue, lower mood, and reduced concentration.
- Write down your top two or three goals for the day: What is your main task for today? Writing this down will ensure you maintain focus on what matters, preventing you from becoming distracted by less important tasks. This will make you more productive.
- Decide on a daily intention for the day: Decide how you want to feel or what you wish to embody for the day. It could be as simple as wanting to be more patient, on time, thankful, friendly, or joyful. This will cultivate positive emotions and behaviors, leading to a more fulfilling and purposeful day.
